Do Dairy Farms Support Local Schools?

holsteinnoseclose.jpgIn more ways than one! If you’re a teacher or work in a school district in which there are dairy farms, the money in your wallet or purse just might be from the cow in the barn.

According to the 2007 Dairy Farm Business Summary by Cornell University, dairy farms in Northern NY pay, on average, $44 per cow in taxes. A major portion these taxes are school taxes. At $44 per cow, a 600 cow dairy farm pays $26,400 a year to support schools and municipalities.

That’s a lot of MOOOOLA!
